The Grumpy Old Men is made up of three men, with similar musical backrounds, but three distinct personalities. Ray Angel and Johnny C. came up on the streets of New York. Gary Whitesides grew up in the California desert where the band now resides. All three have been performing professionally from a very early age. Ray Angel is a talented vocalist as well as guitarist. Ray has writen and recorded for the major recording labels of Capitol, United Artists and Columbia. He has also recorded a solo album for Midland International Records. Ray has opened for many important acts, including the Beach Boys and Rolling Stones. Additionaly, Ray has worked in the house band for the Mork and Mindy, as well as the LaVerne and Shirley T.V. shows. Gary has a very impressive Jazz and Big Band backround. He met Buddy Rich at age 11, and has been inspired ever since. Gary had his first professional gig at 14, and has progressed from there to the Vegas Showrooms, where he has performed with Tommy Dorsey among others. He has also toured internationally as a jazz artist. As well as performing for thrilled audiences, Gary has appeared on numerous recordings, and maintains a drum studio in Apple Valley, Calif. Johnny, the bass man is a serious musician, who has studied theory at Berklee College of music in Boston. From there he went on the road as both band director and performer. He has performed live on radio and television, as well as spent time in the studio, where he has been a back-up musician on many recordings. Johnny has played opposite Madness and Vic Damone, and has also had the pleasure of opening for Johnny Cash. All three men sing lead and back up vocals. They have a song list of over 200 songs, and their sound is very diverse, but they love that blue-eyed soul! The Grumpy Old Men are able to please any audience, from the very young to the very old, and everyone in between! Together, Gary, Ray and Johnny have won the acclaim of audiences all over Southern California with their unique vocal blend, and catchy, danceable tunes. They are equally at home in small venues, such as The GreenTree Inn or the acclaimed Mission Tobacco Lounge, as well as Large venues that seat thousands, from Desert Thunder at Buffalo Bill's, to the prestigious Milestone Classic Car Society Concours. Their versatility and appeal are apparent by the diversity of the audiences to which they play, as well as the size. The Grumpy Old Men have played College Campuses to Country Clubs. These guys truley appeal to everyone. In addition to their own busy schedule, the band also works as a back-up band for such major acts as Rosie(Angel Baby) Hamlin and the Penguins(Earth Angel).
